All states of existence are temporary manifestations of a blend of yin and yang chi. The opposite color dot in each side shows that within each is the seed of the other. Yang, by contrast, is fast, bright, moving, warm, obvious and more superficial and is associated with fire, sky, the sun, masculinity and daytime.Īlthough yin and yang appear as separate, the line between them is curved in an S shape, representing the eternal intertwinement of these two coessential essences. The white side represents the yang aspect of energy. The black side represents chi’s yin aspect. Yin is characterized as slow, dark, stable, cool, diffuse and more deeply hidden yin is associated with water, the moon, femininity and nighttime. Taoists use the well-known black and white circle to represent this energetic play in physical reality. These two energies reflect different qualities and yet they remain in a constant dialogue with each other, seeking a natural equilibrium. As chi condenses into the physical dimension, it splits into two complementary polarities: yin and yang. Chinese yogis suggest that chi ,often translated as energy, is absorbed and emitted by every living thing and is the vital force behind all creation. The Yin-Yang concept comes from the Taoist tradition. The aim is to find harmony by allowing both sides of our nature to be inhabited, the dynamic, engaging qualities and the receptive, allowing side.
